Whole mount of prochlorite microscope slide by G. W. F. George Washington Fiss (1835-1925) was a manufacturer of worsted wool yarn. He began collecting minerals in the 1870\'s and was among the first to begin mounting microscopic mineral specimens for study around 1881. He, along with George G. Rakestraw, is considered to be the founder of the hobby of micromounting. Many of his specimens were obtained from the great collector Clarence S. Bement. His slides are of the utmost quality.
