Description.....I am very pleased to offer for sale this high quality late 19c Chinese soapstone carving of a elder or robed man holding a smoking pipe or type of bowl while sitting on a section of rockery on top of a soapstone stand. This carving was produced in China during the later part of the Qing period or sometime around c1890-c1910 for export. The artist selected a superb piece of stone for this subject matter being of a medium olive color with a portion of a golden russet complimented with the dark chocolate soapstone base or stand. The figure is very well done with outstanding workmanship and details showing nice folds in the garments, good facial details along with hands and fingers as well as the smoke clouds coming from the object being held in his hands. This is a good size piece weighing over 3lbs and hasacquireda wonderful patinized surface through the years and is in pristine condition which makes this a great collectors choice object so offer to win as you will not be disappointed.
Condition...As mentioned this carving and stand are in pristine condition with not even the smallest chip, crack, loss or repair.
