Foryour consideration is an outstanding QUEZALArt Glass Vase in the wonderful\'COIL\' design, circa 1902 -1924.

TheQUEZALArt Glass & Decorating Company was founded on March 27, 1902 byMartin Bach, Nicholas Bach, Thomas Johnson, Adolph Demuth, and Lena Scholtz inQueens, New York. The name QUEZALwas chosen for the rare and beautifulCentral American bird, the quetzal, which was often used in the company\'sliterature to promote its products.

ThePresident, Martin Bach Sr. (1862-1921) emigrated from France, where he worked at the Saint-Louis Glass Co., to the U. S. in 1891 and was the keydriver behind the growth of the company. Following his arrival, he worked forLouis Comfort Tiffany as a chemist at the newly formed Tiffany Glass &Decorating Company in Corona, Queens. After almost 10 years, Bach left Tiffanyto establish his own company (which actually infuriated Louis Tiffany). ThomasJohnson, also a former employee of Tiffany, and Maurice Kelly were two of theearly master glassblowers employed at QUEZAL, whose techniques led to some ofthe most impressive accomplishments of the company with QUEZALArt Glassranking with the very best of early 20th century American art glass.

Thevase is decorated in the beautiful \'COIL\' design havingspontaneousblue swirling on a gold ground that are enhanced with a niceiridescentglow. The interior is a very fine brilliant iridescent gold. It hasa fire finished top rim with a polished pontil on the bottom side and isproperly signed “QUEZAL”. It measures approx. 7” tall by 4\" at widest.

Thepiece is in excellent condition, free of any chips, cracks or repairswithlittle to no wear.
