happy to combineshippingThis is a lovely antique American figuraltoothpick holderc1880 which has a rabbit next to a tree truck which forms the toothpickholder. The rabbit is surrounded by leaves and berries. The detail isextraordinary. It is marked as made by Simpson Hall Miller & co. with theproduction/pattern/patent/catalogue number 33. It is c1870 to 1880. A figural napkin ring similar to this figuraltoothpick holder is shown in the collector\'s book \"Figural NapkinRings: Collector\'s Identification and Value Guide\", by Gottschalk andWhitson in plate 144 on page 67. It is verysimilar to this toothpick holder also made by SHM&Co.. G&W ratedit as grade B+ and valued it at $350-$500 in 1996,19 years ago. Figural toothpick holders are much rarer than figural napkin rings asthere were less of them made. Everyone had to have a napkin ring toidentify their napkins but a toothpick holder could be shared by thewhole family.This is a very rare figural toothpick holder as it is not even shown inthe book by Victor Schnadig were he does show some figural toothpickholders.
This figural toothpick holder is in very good to excellent condition.Ihave not polished it, just washed it in warm soapy water. It has a nicegreyish shiny patina. There is some wear to the silverplate underneaththe holder/trunk. See photos. Pleaselook at thephotos (which form part of the description) and ask any questions ifyou have any a bit out of focus. Clearly marked as noted above. Some wear/scrtaches near edges, as also noted above.
