A RARE AND VALUABLE WORK ON BRIDGES WITH SUPERB FOLDING PANORAMIC PLATES :Hann & Hosking.The Theory, Practice, and Architecture of Bridges. In Two Volumes.Weale, London 1839. Two Volumes....with the 1852-53 Supplement. Three volumes altogether.Large octavo, 99 superb mainly folding engraved plates of bridges around the world. Vol 1 : viii,88p,72p,140p. Vol 2 (ie Vol 1 of Plates) : Plates numbered The Supplement, Volume 3 (is Vol 2 of Plates) : ivp,144p,73p. Plates numbered 1-19, 21-30, then Plates numbered 20. 20a, 20b, 21,22,22a,23,25-28,30-37. Vole one and two bound in the publishers quarter grey papered boards, labels to spine (worn). Volume three is bound in full plum morocco, plain with gilt lettering to spine. A touch inappropriate, one might say. Sl spotting, some sl toning. A Good but incomplete copy of this most remarkable and scarce work. There is no indication of why some plates are apparently missing - it is not a case of the best ones having been removed, as there are very many excellent \"views\" of bridges which would frame-up nicely.This copy includes a note to Mr Weale, the Publisher, from an unidentified hand (living at 18 Wilmington), sending back to him the two dictionaries and the 2 No\'s of the Book on Bridges : \"I have corrected the translation in the first of them & if you look at the 2nd No you will see that it also is by no means free from error, although rather better than the 1st. I do not think I shall take McCullock\'s Dict. but probably shall take Ure\'s (sic).
