Rare 1909 Miniature Stereoscope Tin Toy By Metropolitan Syndicate Press With Box For SaleThe pictures above are exact pictures of everything that's included in this sale. This is a fantastic Miniature Tin Litho stereoscope with thirty-six ( 36 ) stereoview cards and a small carved wood box they were in when we acquired them. This tiny stereoscope was made and patented by the METROPOLITAN SYNDICATE PRESS of Chicago, Illinois in 1909. It measures just 4 3/8 inches x 4 inches with a height of 1 5/8 inches. Focus is accomplished by moving the card holder nearer or further from the glass lenses. The cards are stored in the card holder. The viewer breaks down into three parts for easy storage. The viewer is in working condition despite a small bubble in the left lens that was obviously a manufactured flaw and a chipped right lens that was caused by a former owner ( See sale pictures ). The slide support seems to be a hand crafted replacement, also by a former owner. The thirty-six stereoviews are of Victorian Era children, their pets, wild and zoo animals, etc. The tiny cards measure 2 15/16 inches x 1 7/16 inches. These cards are in varied viewable condition with some better than others as shown. Some have creases, soiling, image loss, etc., and some are real nice for their age ( See sale pictures ).The carved wood box measures 6 inches x 4 inches x 3 5/8 inches. It has brass hinges and closure with soft patina. I don't know it's age and it is not signed by the maker. It has a Humming Bird and Flowers carved on it. It is lined with a velour type material. The closure is made to accept a tiny padlock but a lock is not included in the sale. The box is sound with just a few scratches and chips here and there but very nice. The box was not made by Metropolitan Syndicate Press.Due to the age and the imperfections we mentioned the items in this sale are selling as-found, as-shown, and as-is.
