DescriptionCheck it out...Here\'s a VERY SCARCE Original 8 1/2\" wide by 7 1/4\" tall typed letter from around 1918 during World War I and sent from the Miami County Warchest Association in Peru Indiana to conduct a wartime census. The letterhead reads (in part): \"Miami County Enlists. Miami County War Chest Association. 23 E. Third Street, Peru Indiana.\" The letter has a lengthy list of prominent Miami County men who are serving on the special \"War Chest Council\" listed in detail at the top. The committee includes local farmers, bankers, doctors, commissioners, lawyers, merchants, real estate brokers, bank tellers, undertakers, ministers, and Red Cross and Salvation Army workers from the county. The letter reads: \"Fellow Citizen: – – the Miami County warchest Association is now engaged in making a thorough and complete census of every man, woman and child in Miami County, and for this purpose is enclosing here with a blank which must be filled out and signed by the head of every family. Please go over the enclosed blank and carefully fill out all of the blank spaces correctly, and then sign the same. Keep the blank until called for by some member of the Polling Committee, and be sure and have it filled out by next Monday, May 24th. The blank will be called for either on next Monday or Tuesday. Please arrange to have someone at home to deliver this blank. Watch the newspapers for further instructions and call Main 3 for any information you may desire.
