You are offerding on a very rare item. This is a letter from an American woman to an American prisoner of war during World War II. It was recovered after the POW was freed in 1945.DATE: Dec. 31, 1944
FROM: Grand Rapids, Michigan.
TO: Stalag Luft I in Barth, Germany
POSTMARK: New York, N.Y.
TOPIC: Female friend, who is a dancer, writes of how tired she is from doing so many holiday shows. Tells \"Charlie\" about all the presents she received for Christmas.NOTE: This is official \"Prisoner of War Post\" aka \"Kriegsgefangenenpost\" that the U.S. Post Office was able to send to POW camps in Germany. The stamp was removed at some point. This also has an American censor number on the bottom left corner and a German censor stamp on the upper left corner.BIOGRAPHY: This comes from the estate of Lt. Charles W. Harris of Pueblo, Colo. Harris was an American pilot who was shot down over Germany during WWII. Harris was part of a Heavy Bomber B17 B24. He was held in a German concentration camp for six months (Feb. 28, 1944 to May 30, 1945) before being liberated by the Russians. While being held at Stalag Luft I, he was held in the South Barrack 12, Room 13.
