Up for sale is this unusual brass paraffin oil lamp made in Birmingham by Sherwoods in the 1950s or 60s. The Syntax lamp was Sherwoods version of the classic English \'Chimneyless\' paraffin lamp, where a chimney-shade replaced the more usual separate chimney and shade.

Standing 16 inches high complete, with a base 5&1/2 inches high, the lamp has never been used and is complete, ex Ironmongers old stock. The shade is marked Anchor Brand, fireproof, and secured by a knurled brass screw and 2 clips. Burner is complete with the original \'Syntax\' marked wick ( a plain wick , 1 inch wide, also supplied in case you want to light the lamp ) .

Burner is still in the original lacquer, as is filler cap ( with original seal washer ), font is bright inside, but the outside has darkened a bit with age.

This example is probably the last they ever made, the sheet unde rthe base is brass, more usually they\'re tin, font has a filler, unusual on small lamps like this, and the burner has an extinguisher, see pics, also unusual on burners like this.

Burner is in perfect working order as new, I have filled the font with paraffin for 24 hours to check against leaks ! no leaks, no damage, no splits, no cracks or chips to the shade.

A rare example for the collector ! Will be carefully packed !
