Up for sale are 4 VERY RARE ca. late 1800’s original ANTIQUE photographs taken of oil fields and wells to the south of Baku (modern day Azerbaijan) on the Caspian Sea!! They are accompanied byin depth descriptions describing them as being of wells owned by the Russian Oil Petroleum Fuel Company and the Rothschilds and Nobel Company!! Very historic material!!

These came from an amazing antique photo album packed with fantastic and rare photos of South Russia, Central Asia and the Middle East, including Petrovsk-Port (modern day Makhachkala, Dagestan), Krasnovadsk, the Romany Oil District,Baku (modern day Azerbaijan), Old Merv, Bukhara in Uzbekistan, Central Asia, the Samarkands ruins, the Zarafshan River, Pamir Country, Samsoun and Trepezone on the Black Sea, Dardanelles, and more!!!

This album belonged to a man named Robert E. Hill, who took great care in organizing these photos, sometimes with lengthy descriptions. He may have been a land surveyor sent around the word to inspect lands for oil wells and digging, as some of his descriptions reference his proposition to build a sea wall in Baku’s oil district, and the Russian Oil Petroleum Fuel Company. Also discovered in the album were manuscript pages typed in Russian, with excerpts that match the book (which translates to english as)“Merchant Shipping”by N. D. Filipov, published in 1905.
