GLASS CUTTER: J. Hoare & Company of Corning, NY.

SIGNATURE: Acid etched signature of the J. Hoare & Co. Corning 1853 in a circle on the interior between the edge and the center as shown in photo #6.

PATTERN NAME: \"Marquise\". This pattern is illustrated in section 2 of the Turquoise cover Hoare catalog reprint published by the ACGA as shown in the last photo. This is a RARE and highly desirable pattern!

ITEM / SHAPE: Low bowl or nappy.

AGE: American Brilliant Period (c.1876-1916). More specifically, circa 1906-1913.

BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULT: Fluoresces a lime green color.

BLANK / GLASS CLARITY: Superior quality blown blank. Bright, water-white and clear.

CUTTING DETAILS: Exceptional cutting and precise execution typical of Hoare. This piece is cut all over in no less than seven different motifs with extremely fine detail.

POLISHING QUALITY: Appears to be entirely wood/felt wheel polished. The finish is excellent and looks crisp. Exhibits wonderful brilliance and light refracting properties.

MEASUREMENTS: 8\" wide and 2\" high.

WEIGHT: 2 lbs. 12 oz.

CONDITION: Very good. There are two partially nicked teeth with about 40%-50% loss and several very small to tiny flakes and pinhead size flea bites on the teeth and just a few on the pattern, the worst as shown enlarged in the photos. The teeth are very small, so the nicks and flakes are only detected under very close inspection or magnification.

COMMENTS: The epitome of \"rich cut glass\", this is a Rare and Hard to Find pattern from one of the top cutting houses of the Brilliant Period. This piece displays magnificently and would make an important addition to any collection.
