On offer here I have quite a rare little French English, English French dictionary by Chambaud, abridged by John Perrin and edition corrected and improved by M Moysant. Printed for A Strahan, T Cadell, W Davies and P Elmsley in the Strand, dated 1797.
What is really lovely about this little book is it is signed by Amelia Saumarez in1816.She was the daughter of Admiral Baron James Saumarez of Guernsey, who has an impressive history and was involved with Nelson etc. She was born in 1800 and married William Young Herries of Spotts Hall in 1822 died 1838 and is buried at the Canongate in Edinburgh.That is what I personally love about items such as these, that make you feel you can touch a piece of history and those that made it!
The book itself has suffered over the last 200 odd years as you can see from the pics. The leather cover has damage to the front and spine and the front board is held by the stringing. There is some wear to a few pages with a couple sitting a little loose again photographed, but it is otherwise sound and complete.It measures about 5 inches square by 1.75 inches deep.
