Please scroll down below description for more pictures.Dating from the mid 1800s this is a rare and superb antique French building blocks set with a geographical theme.
Still all in the original box they were produced by JULLIEN EDITEUR PARIS.
Alexandre JULLIEN moved to Paris in 1854 rue St-Denis, then transferred his business in 1865 rue des Grands Chantiers. He exhibited toys at the universal exhibition in 1878 and was a member of the jury of the 1889.
The wooden box is all strong and carries a superb advertising vignette with the words CUBES GEOGRAPHIQUE with JL PARIS.
The inner lid has 6 pattern map sheets all with the maker`s name and one in particular is very decorative and titled MAPPEMONDE.
The blocks are all superb with design pieces on each side.
The box locking clip is long gone but that does not detract in any way!
The box measures
29cms x 20cms x 5cms
A rare find for any period collection or vieille maison display.
