I AM AWAY UNTIL THE WEDNESDAY AFTER THE sale ENDS.The intaglios i am listing tonight are from one of 3 separate groups i will be listing over the next few weeks.All of the red sulfur intaglios are by the famous engraver James Tassie.All the ones listed tonight date circa 1770,they have the earlier numbering system used before Eric Raspe catalogued and renumbered all Tassie,s 15,000 plus intaglios in 1791.I have lightened a few of the images slightly to show the detail better,but every intaglio tonight is the same shade of red.
These can be found on the beazley archive gilt paper wrapped and numbered.Measure as shown in the photo ( 1 inch = 25mm)Red sulfur ones are a harder material than the plaster types and are a lot earlier in date.
Some of the red sulfur intaglios have had some black lines and marks added to the sulfur to make it look more like red marble.
