A RARE late 17th, Early 18th Century Forged Iron Hand Cannon/Signal Cannon with Great Formed Base

A GREAT example of an early Hand Cannon/ Naval Signal Cannon.

Dating Circa 1690-1750 - this wonderful hand cannon showcases a fine example of period forged ironwork.
Notably the armour/maker formed in an Octogon shaped \"barrel\" with a square based platform. While these types of cannons are associated with being \"signal\" cannons used to discharge powder while on a ship to alert other ships of their presence it\'s also known that they were used as hand cannons.

On the face of the piece above the touch hole there are areas that would have been original touch marks. These are visible in certain lights though now faint from age.

Measures just under 7\" in length.

Most likely of European origin though many of these are found in the United States as they were transported upon early sailing ships and used as early articles of Warfare in the Revolutionary War period.
