Glorious, antique Victorian celluloid/wood vanity box that is in remarkable condition for the age. Found this beauty stuffed with the original contents, including hand held mirror, brush (has a crack on the top and a small piece of the material is missing) and two tiny lidded \'pots\', possibly for rouge or cream, all with amazing, three dimensional embossing. There is a comb, and three nail care pieces with the same content - possibly a combination which includes plastic and/or celluloid, and a nail buffer.Box is massive, measuring 13.5\" tall by 11\" wide by 3.5\" deep and weighing over 10 lbs. Has a step-up all around the box with the main box being embossed in a delicious cream colour in florals and a row of scrolled leaves all around the entire box. Some of this is peeling from age, but can be repaired or left for that fabulous chippy, peely look. The top, deep olive green and cream is held in place with all of the original brass corner clasps and one large clasp that is intact and functional to open/close the front...with hinges and clasps at the back which allow the box to remain open. Box has its own mirror on the inside top of the case, encased in velvet with gold trimming. The gold silk is original but could be replaced...The top has some wear (cracks that have been reglued) but doesn\'t deflect from the overall presence of the piece....never have seen one complete such as this and in remarkable shape. The dimensional goddess on the lid is beautiful with long, wavy wind-blown hair, gossamer lace scarf and dress and in a cameo frame.
