It is a dark, carved patinated wood. It has all the right features, oval face, T-shape nose, perimeter flanges of horns, wings, abird on top and slits for eyes. Small part of bird\'s crest chipped, otherwise Great Condition.
It is relatively small for a small face.Supposedly this type of mask was used for the initiation of ayoung boy in the Poro society Ceremonies.
Actual mask is 9 1/4\" Tall and 5\" Wide
Full Length with Horns and Bird is 12.5\"
This is one of two antique African Masks I recently acquired at an estate sale along with a collection of African Textiles.
