Magnificent and RARE late 1700s to earliest 1800s French ormolu and faux mother of pearl (a casein fab fake) casket, set in pressed ormolu that is set throughout with semi-precious stones as jewels. AND every side shows a pair of hounds attacking and being attacked by a wolf. An amazing little jewelry or bonboniere, or trinket casket that we\'ve seen only one other of in all our decades of dealing and collecting antiques - and we had and sold that one, too. This one is in even finer condition than the earlier find, but we\'re going to price it the same as the one we\'d sold a couple of years back. Just in with my shipments from France (was there all of March), it is one of my favorites finds of late. Even the old original silk lining is in very good condition on this one. It\'s better on the inner lid than in the deeper bowl of the box, as you can see, but it is still there and quite lovely. No label to help us, but I\'ve seen a similar object I believe might be from the same maker in a decorative arts museum in Madrid, and it was noted as Palais Royal, Paris on a tiny affixed label. I can only pass it along, but it certainly is the type of goods we know would have come from the early and very elite boutiques of the old Palais Royal\'s promenade of Cardinal Richelieu\'s Palace, near the Louvre, Paris.
Very good to excellent condition throughout on this one. Usually this type of faux mother of pearl shows sections broken out or cracks, at least (casein, or milk-based protein substance sometimes mimic for mother of pearl as in this case, or also used in place of and to mimic tortoise shell in similar items, same time frame). This one is remarkably fine in all aspects. I\'ve made sure our photographer shot all 4 sides and the top so you can see how excellent it truly is, and damage-free. What a stunning little treasure! It stands 5\" tall, is more or less a 3\" cube, allowing for the angled sides, if you want to think of it as such, in the bottom box half. Beautiful pearlescent shimmer to the panels, and the ormolu remains high gold even without us giving it a polish. A real gem! And RARE!

Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
