Recently found on a rosary fragment from one of the Carmeliteconvents we work with is this beautiful medal that is 1 inch long, withoriginal patina, and a weight of 4 grams of bronze.

We know the dating because a year ago a small catch ofsimilar medals was discovered at another Carmelite Convents and all were sold.

Saint Teresa of Ávila, also called Saint Teresa of Jesus,baptized as Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada (28 March 1515 – 4 October1582), was a prominent Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, Carmelite nun,author during the Counter Reformation, and theologian of contemplative lifethrough mental prayer. She was a reformer of the Carmelite Order and isconsidered to be a founder of the Discalced Carmelites along with John of theCross.

Saint John of the Cross, O.C.D. (Spanish: San Juan de laCruz; 24 June 1542 – 14 December 1591), was a major figure of theCounter-Reformation, a Spanish mystic, a Roman Catholic saint, a Carmelitefriar and a priest who was born at Fontiveros, Old Castile.

John of the Cross was a reformer of the Carmelite Orderand is considered, along with Saint Teresa of Ávila, as a founder of theDiscalced Carmelites. He is also known for his writings. Both his poetry andhis studies on the growth of the soul are considered the summit of mysticalSpanish literature and one of the peaks of all Spanish literature. He wascanonized as a saint in 1726 by Pope Benedict XIII. He is one of the thirty-sixDoctors of the Church.
