These stunning dragon vases were purchased by my grandparents in the 19th century when they traveled to Europe. I have done a lot of research on Venetian glass and also on the artists. From what I have learned, I am pretty sure that collection is an early Salviati Dott. Antonio one.

The dragon vase set of 2 has gold flecks all over and shines brilliantly in the light. The dragons are complete with wings and the long tail is wrapped around the bottom of the vase/flower. They appear to be drinking water from the vase/flower. The detail is amazing. I couldn\'t help but smile when I read that the \"Magical Dragons\" created by Salviati captivated the public with their animated personalities as they were brought to life by their maker with eyes, tongues, wings and claws . I took several closeups so that you could see the expression in the dragon\'s eyes. The way that he is holding on to the vase/flower reminds me of the way a baby grabs hold of a bottle with no intention of letting go.:) It looks like the dragon has the same idea! The emotions seen in figures such as this one had never before been captured in the cold, fragile and prosaic material that was used to create them.

The dragons measure approximately 14\" tall and the diameter of the base is 4 1/2\". One of the dragon vases is in beautiful condition with no damage that I can see on it. The claws on the other one look as though they have been chipped because they are smooth. (Please enlarge for closeups.)I didn\'t notice it until I ran my fingers over the glass. We\'ve heard some wonderful comments made by friends who have seen our collection over the years and the dragons always captured their attention. I hope to find a good home for one or both of the dragons.
