RARE CABINET PHOTO OF NORA HILDABRANDT THE 1ST FULLY TATTOOED WOMAN - TATTOOED LADY - BY EISENMANN - Anyone familiar with the most famous early tattooed ladies of the late 19th Century will soon recognize this cabinet card as one of the rarest photos ever taken by Charles Eisenmann of Nora Hildabrandt. Nora was tattooed from head to toe by the legendary tattoo artist and her father, Martin Hildabrandt. Martin Hildabrandt, would set up his shop in 1846 in New York City and later during the Civil War, he was responsible for tattooing both Union and Rebel soldiers. Many of his tattoos during the war were simply of a soldier\'s name and thought to be a way of identifying these brave men if they were killed. A way to identify them, so their bodies could be returned rightfully to their families. Martin was not only Nora\'s father, but he is considered today by many as the original father of all American Tattoo Artists. Here in this full length photo of his daughter, Nora is posed in a semi-seated position and hiking up her skirt in a provocative manner to show off all her father\'s artistic skills he inked upon her legs. You are truly considering one of the \"Must Have\" cabinet cards for your collection of early American Tattoo performers and other Circus Sideshow images.

Many of the early fully tattooed men and women made up their own fictional stories about being captured by Wild Savages who tattooed them as a form of punishment. However, facts be known, with the new invention of what was termed \"Self-Mutatizing\" oneself as a freak or oddity, came the potential of making a great deal of money. Soon, having yourself fully tattooed became very popular within the sideshow circuit. Many new performers were being inked and ready to go on display in the U.S. and around the world!

Thisstrong and bold printed portrait was captured by Charles Eisenmann, one of the main photographers in the Bowery in New York City who specialized his focused on stage and circus performers during the Golden Age of the 19th Century. Showing off these tattoos, so scantly dressed in her performing attire, not only allowed Nora the right to be so scandalously viewed while on display, but helped create an acceptable level of sensuality that was not previously apart of the Puritan culture of the 19th Century.

You can clearly make out individual tattoos here on Nora\'s body and see why she turned a few heads as the earliest fully tattooed female here in America. Good luck to all my fellow circus and tattoo image collectors winning this amazing cabinet card.

CONDITION:Please view my photos for the actual condition and as part of my description. The photographers stamp appears on the front of the mount. The edges and corners of the cabinet photo are in truly amazing antique condition, with only a tiny stain on the top left corner of the mount. This mount has the typical serrated edge. The backside is blank and has a few minor stains consistent with being from the 1880\'s. The image itself remains sharp, with superb contrast and tonal range. What you are offerding on, is one of boldest cabinet cards of Nora Hildabrandt I have seen on in a long time. Good luck!
