RARE FACTORY TRANSFERWARE SHEET, COPELAND SPODE ITALIAN, BLACK FOR ROUND PLATE:

This sale is for a extremely rare transferware sheet and was acquired more than 20 years ago on a Connoisseur Tour at the Spode manufactory, which is now closed. THESE WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND FEW SAMPLES EVER LEFT THE FACTORY. The transferware design was punched onto thin copper sheets by an artist, the copper sheets were put on a drum and the design was printed onto paper, which was then sent to areas where the design was cut apart and applied to bisque-ware before firing. These transferware sheets were ephemeral & now fragile, but if you collect Black Italian , this is a rare and fascinating example of how these pieces were made. It\'s in nice condition with a slight crease on the edge as seen in the last picture. Be sure to check out my other items from this collection.
