RARE H. MATTHEWS MINT/UNUSED 1901 SOLID STERLING SILVER STATIONARY SET-WOW:
$395.00

This is a stunning Sterling Silver Stationary Set that is near mint, handcrafted by H Matthews in Birmingham in 1901. He was a master silver smith and well known for creating very fine Sterling Silver pieces. It includes a locking leather bound velvet lined case with a wax stamp, match Vesta case with legs and original match box, a wax holder, a page turner with ivory blade, a mechanical pencil, and what appears to be a pastel pen or possibly a fountain pen. It is an absolutely magnificent set that has been passed down from generation to generation but it\'s time for this gem to find a new home. Here is what is included in more detail:
  • Sterling Silver Wax Stamp for sealingenvelopes. 30 grams of silver, hallmarked with a horse shoe, HM, Birmingham hallmarks (anchor and lion), letter \"b\" for 1901
  • Sterling Silver Match Vesta Case with legs and original match box full of matches. 24 grams of silver. Same hallmarks.
  • Sterling Silver Red Wax for creating seals on envelopes. Two separatebars of wax adorned with beautiful pattern. Sterling silver weight is 30 grams. Same hallmarks
  • Sterling Silver Page Turner with solid ivory \"blade\". This piece is truly impressive and the center of attention here. Due to being unable to weigh the silver separately, my guess is 30 grams of silver. Same hallmarks
  • Sterling Silver MechanicalPencil....wow! I had no idea this was invented this early. I tested this piece as I can see no hallmarks but it did acid test Sterling. 11 grams of silver
  • Sterling Silver Pastel Holder or Fountain Pen that is incomplete. I am really unsure of this item\'s purpose but it is also SterlingSilver with a brass insert that says \"Colorado #2\". Same hallmarks. 7 grams of silver.
Total silver weight on this set is 132 grams or 4.75 ounces. I have researched H Matthews and he made a lot of impressivesilver pieces. This is truly a gem of a set and would make a great addition to any discerning collection, conversation piece, or gift. Most of his individual pieces sell for $100-$500 so this set is truly a steal!
