RARE Old German Victorian Patriotic Flag Drape LARGE SWIRL Ornament, Circa 1885. This large, flashy ornament is 5 1/2\" long and 2 1/4\" wide. This is a really unique patriotic ornament, with the red stripes creating a pinwheel effect! It is an excellent example of the Victorians\' liking for flare and elegance. The upper portion with the white \"dot\" stars has faded over the past century so that it appears more gold than blue. The ornament is in \"good\" condition. It has some imperfections. The metal cap has surface rust and appears stuck on due to age. The paint has some wear. The paint on the lower area of the ornament apparently was in a humid area at one time (or was touched by damp Christmas tree needles!), and it lifted up some and then dried back out and lay down. The paint is on tightly and is NOT flaking off. The ornament is stable and presents a striking appearance on the Christmas tree! This is a seldom-seen patriotic ornament.
