I bought this at the Royal Copenhagen headquarters when I was in Copenhagen in 2014. It is no longer being made, is extremely rare and collectible, and would make an ideal gift for anyone who loves porcelain, pottery, fairytales, literature, or just beautiful objects!All the characteristics we associate with Hans Christian Andersen are accentuated in this beautiful porcelain figurine -- his high hat, the straight nose, and more. In his hand he has one of his books and as he holds one of his fingers between the papers in the book, we get the impression that he has just been interrupted in his reading. A small grey duckling is sitting next to his foot and it naturally leads us to think about \"The Ugly Duckling,\" who has to go through so many bad things before it turns into a beautiful swan. This particular fairytale has by many been interpreted as Hans Christian Andersen\'s own description of himself.
