HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPH

AN ORIGINAL AFRICAN AMERICAN IDENTIFIED SLAVE CDV CARTE-DE-VISTE

EMILY CARY CIVIL WAR EMANCIPATED BLACK WOMAN

Just a wonderful piece of African American History in the form of an antique, original 19th century, 1880\'s carte-de-viste, cdv photo of aCivil War emancipated slave African American black woman, taken in Petersburg, Virginia.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well this is definitely the case for this photograph. Her face speaks volumes. Eyes that have seen hardship and suppression; a weathered face that has seen years and years of toll and labor. A simple but powerful expression that seems to say \"I have been through it all and I have seen it all. Nothing you do or say can upset me or stray me from my path.\" So much history and emotion packed behind those eyes which really allows one to think about just what went on in America over 150 years ago.

A truly brilliant soul shining through and a very strong woman indeed!

The lady pictured is identified as Emily Cary born in 1838, who was married to one James Cary born in 1781.

The daughter who\'s name is written on the backside would be identified as Louisa Cary Harrison born in 1856, who married one Henry Harrison.
These families all resided in Rives, Prince George, Virginia, which is very close to Petersburg, Virginia.
During the time this photo was taken Emily Cary was widowed and was listed as a farmer.
The photographer is identified as:
LEATHPhotographerNo. 141 N. Sycamore StreetPetersburg, Virginia
Inscribedby Cary in period ink on the backside reads:
\"Mrs. Louisa Harrisonfrom your mother.\"
Good condition with some light edge wear and moderate foxing. Measures 4 inches by 2.5 inches with an elegant purple and gold border.
Overall, a wonderful piece of African American history and an amazing photograph ofa Civil Waremancipated slave. Apicture truly is worth a thousand words!\"When history becomes tangible it becomes real!\"Available exclusively from 21st Century Treasures!
