RARE, SOLIDSILVER, CASED, DECORATIVE THIMBLE – IN COMMEMORATION OF THE ROYAL WEDDING OFCHARLES AND DIANA IN JULY 1981

A beautiful and highly decorative thimble made of solid silver tocommemorate the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer on July29th 1981 in St Paul’s Cathedral.It is cased in a presentation box.

Around the thimble are two sets of embossed, interlinked letters of theinitials “C” for Charles and “D” for Diana.These are interspersed by two embossed sets of three plumed feathers ona crown – the symbol for the Prince of Wales.The entire piece is set against a background pattern of engine-turnedchasing.

The bottom of the thimble is encircled with the words “THE PRINCE ANDPRINCESS OF WALES JULY 1981”.

HALLMARKS: The base of the thimble carries the clear hallmarks of solid silverEnglish silver from the Birmingham Assay Office. These are:the letters for the makers “A Ltd” in two concentric circles; the anchormark to show that the silver was assayed in Birmingham; the lion passantdenoting solid English silver; the letter “g” in a square for the year 1981.

MEASUREMENTS: The lovely piece stands at 2.8cm (1.1 inches) in height and 2.2cm (0.9inches) in diameter. It weighsapproximately 3g.

CONDITION: The condition is excellent – there are no holes, dents or splits andthe base is circular. The thimble hasclearly never been used and has been sitting in a box for the last 32years! The presentation box is in verygood condition - only worn commensurate with age.
