HISTORY:Beautiful“Objets D’art” with durability for Centuries to come…

“Cloisonné is an enameling technique in which the pattern is formed by wires soldered to the surface of the object to be

decorated; usually made from copper, forming cells or cloisons, each of which holds a single colour of enamelpaste

which is then fired, ground and polished.

TheChamplevé technique also uses an enameling technique, but the cells are formed by carving into the surface of the

object,or in the casting.

The Cloisonné technique has been in use since the 12th century BC in the west, but the technique did not reach China

untilthe 13th or 14thcentury. It became popular in China in the 18th century. Initially bronze or brass bodies were used,

andthen, inthe 19th century - copper…

Chinese cloisonné is the best known Enamel Cloisonné, though the Japanese produced large quantities from the mid-19th

c.,of very high technical quality. In the west the cloisonné technique was revived in the mid 19th century following imports

fromChina, and its use continued in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods and into the present... (often of lesser quality).

These Vases are an exact, matching pair ~ of exceptional quality ~

They possess fitted Caps with curved Bar Finials and Fancy Scrolled

“PHOENIX HANDLES” in Gilded Metal.

Lovely examples of CLOISIONNE & CHAMPLEVE handwork - their smooth

polished Faces contrast with densely sculpted sides of Champleve.

Neck and Base are dressed with repetitive Border Designs- (withasurprise

touch of Scarlet & Jade Green).

Richly covered with historic Chinese Motifs: one side of each Vase has a

BLUE BIRD ofHAPPINESS perched on yellow & white Flowering Dogwood

Branches withblush/white Wisteria Clumps & Butterflies above.

Their Flip Side featuresprominent Florals - pink & white Shasta Mums with

Blue Leaves andwhite Magnolia above.

Purchased in Milano 1984 at an International Trade Show from an Italian

Company specializing in the import ofhigh quality Asian Vintage and

Antique accessories. On arrival in the U.S. they were chosen by the

Designerfor a“private collection”. Since then, they\'ve been keptprotected

behindglass doors in a displayVitrine Cabinet.

They are in excellent condition (and priced as such)! Most unusual in their

Cartouche field coloring of darkest Midnight Blue - these as Glorious

Pieces ofmarvelous intricacy - very powerful and dignified…just like the

ancient Countryof their origin!
