I am a Jewellery fanatic and most of my items are Antique, but I also love unique modern or estate Jewellery as long as it is unusual or takes my eye!
Here is a perfect example, a fabulous piece of wearable surreal art by internationally renowned Mexican artist, Sergio Bustamante.
Born in Cucliacan Sinaloa, Sergio studied Architecture at the University Guadalajara but gave this up to pursue his Arts & Crafts interests. The bulk of Sergio\'s work has been fantastical sculptures using all kinds of media, from papiere mache and ceramics to bronzes and other metals.
Here is a piece of jewellery, from I think the 80\'s (or possibly 90\'s? I cannot find anything similar in jewellery format), when he was producing a series of sculptures in egg shaped forms with faces and limbs.
The pendant is in the form of an egg with a painted and sculptured features and two hands. It has a white metal bale into which a chain can be threaded. I am unsure of the material but guess it is some form of Polymer? Too light for ceramic and too heavy for papiere mache?
The piece is signed by hand - S.B with a copyright symbol.
It comes in the original box and did have a white fabric drawstring pouch that had been plasticised on the outside but this was de-grading and could have caused damaged to the item rather than protecting it so it has been discarded.
It is in perfect condition and comes with a period 80\'s solid platinum short twist necklace.A truly rare and fantastic (unique even (?) piece of wearable, surreal art that would definately get noticed and draw comments. It would make a great addition to anyones collection and I think it would be a fabulous piece for a Museums Jewellery Collection - Judith Bolinger wing take note!
