Beautiful, high quality, big and solid sterling silver spoon from Saint Louis Missouri dating back to years around 1900 featuring on the front of the handle detailed image of Veiled Prophet with a Viking like helmet, below ST. LOUIS lettering and round seal with some letters or symbols. In the bawl engraved is “Ira”. Measures slightly under 5 7/8 \"long (147 mm), weights 26.6 grams and is in excellent condition. On back it is marked PAT. ‘91 STERELING and makers markings (lion anchor G) for Gorham Mfg. Co. and engraved 1892. Please see other, some rare, collector spoons I\'m currently listing. More on the subject: \"The theme of the Veiled Prophet, a gay autumnal holiday pageant held each year in St. Louis, Missouri, is based loosely on Lalla Rookh, by Thomas Moore, published in 1817. The story tells of the journey of Lalla Rookh, an Indian princess, on her way to Cashmere to marry the young king. A Cashmerian poet, Feramorz, accompanies her party and entertains the princess with four narrative poems dealing with romantic themes of love and liberty.
