RARE VINTAGE BANDAI CORAL SEA AIRCRAFT CARRIER/FLAT TOP TIN FRICTION TOY JAPAN:

Rare, Vintage, Bandai tin friction “CoralSea” Aircraft Carrier. The USS Coral Seawas a United States Navy Aircraft Carrier named for the “Battle of the CoralSea” that took place during WWII. TheCoral Sea was commissioned to be built in 1943 and was launched in April of1946. The ship was one of the lastaircraft carriers to be built with a \"straight\" flight deck. Subsequent aircraft carriers were designed andbuilt with an “angled deck” to accommodate jet aircraft. In later years the Coral Sea was modernizedfor jet aircraft with an \"angled” flight deck. The Coral Sea earned theaffectionate nickname of “Ageless Warrior” due to the incredible longevity and adaptabilitythe vessel displayed and served the USA overmany years. The USS Coral Sea was eventuallydecommissioned in 1990.

The Bandai tin friction toy reflects theoriginal \"straight\" flight deck design from when the Coral Sea was originally designedand built. The toy is missing its towerand three tin aircraft appear to be \"lost at sea\". Even so, it is anunusual tin toy that displays well with the remaining four tin aircraft on herdeck andfour guns on the forward deck.The litho details, ship number and name are clear and bright. The red hull paint is clear and bright but hasdents on the bottom of the hull as shown in picture #7. This does not in any way impact the smooth friction action or itsdisplay ability since it is on the bottom of the hull.

The friction action is working smooth and well withrubber wheels that are in good condition with no dry rot, flat spots or cracks. This is a very unusual tin toy not often seen or available.
