RARE VINTAGE HERCULES PRE-40\'s WOODEN TENNIS RACQUET, GUT STRINGS INTACT:

This rare Hercules wood racquet was used in the 40\'s by my Mom, but it is believed to have been made much earlier. It is in good condition for its age with the original strings, cat or lamb gut, intact; they are reddish in color. Some small restraining twine strings at the very top are starting to break away; the lower ones are intact. The handle has fine grooves in it to make it easier to hold on to,and a classic period oval head. There is a crack in the inlay on the front but it does not go through to the reverse side; see the pictures as they are part of my description. On the backside of the handle is a black area; I can\'t tell if it was where a label was, or what it is; it also appears that someone carved a \"M\" at the base of the handle on the rear side. There is still a leather band intact at the base of the handle.The finish is deteriorating around the racquet head and there are small dings in the old wood.The racquet is approximately 26 1/2\" in length.
