RARE! Adorable 2 Piece Covered Butter Dish
COW IN HER PEN
Pen base reads: FRESH BUTTER DISH on both sides, the lid is a cow in a laying position
Marked JAPAN on bottom in black (1940\'s-1950\'s? maybe earlier?)
Great Vintage condition with a few minor issues, one repair. Read full description for details. This is such a cute vintage 2 piece butter dish. A black and white cow wearing an aqua collar with a pink flower at one side is the lid. She is resting within the dish base, which is her fenced in pen with yellow framing.CONDITION:
This set is in great vintage condition for its age, but does have a few flaws. None of these issues are really noticeable and overall this piece looks wonderful, but I am going to list everything I see. Both pieces show crazing. Both pieces have staining from butter oils. The lid is nearly completely stained on the inside, showing through to the outside a bit, making her a little bit more of a cream color than bright white. The base has some spot stains inside and on the bottom. The lid has a couple of small hairline cracks and a few small chips on the bottom rim, all are shallow and cannot be seen at all when she in her pen (barely visible even if she is out of the pen unless you are looking for them). There is some flaking in the glaze of the flower edge and it looks like the ear on that same side did not get fully clear glazed as it is matte black instead of glossy. The base dish has a crack that looks to have been repaired quite nicely, I didn\'t even notice it at first. It is at one corner and runs under the word FRESH and through the letters BU of BUTTER and up to the top. Glue is not noticeable on the outside and is nearly clear inside. If I run my finger along the top of the dish above the word butter, I can feel it slightly, but it visually is not noticeable. There a couple of either small chips on the top edge of the base, but they almost look like they were there pre-glazing.Really, the set is a great display piece, I just want to make sure I mention anything I notice so that there are no surprises when you receive this cutie.PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS AND ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING.I accept PayPal only, payment is due within 3 days.
