Rare, medal GOLD STAR PILGRIMAGE TO THE BATTLEFIELDS OF THE WORLD WAR. Measures approximately 1 1/2” in diameter. Tiffany & Co.name, in raised letters, just below and to the right of the US Lines logo. Rim numbered 3683 as well as BRONZE and an “M”. Minimal wear and and complete with the original ribbon, which you don\'y often see! You are buying the material pictured. In March 1929, eleven years after World War I, the U.S. Congress passed a law authorizing the use of government funds to pay for mothers and widows of fallen veterans (“Gold Star” mothers and widows) to visit their loved ones buried on the battlefields of Europe. This unprecedented program honoring the \"Gold Star\" mothers and widows was entrusted to the Quartermaster Corps for implementation. Some 6,693 Gold Star mothers and war widows made the pilgrimage abroad.
