WRIGHT AERONAUTICAL HISTORY

Founded in1903, Wright Bros. Name changed to Wright Aeronautical Co. in 1916 or 1919 itscorporate charter was the design and manufacture of aero engines. 1920 - WrightAeronautical Corp. Merged with Curtiss in 1931. Wright Aeronautical ceased tobe in 1983.

The Wrightbrothers were no longer involved with the company. Wilbur had died, and Orvillehad other interests, but it can be said that Wright Aeronautical enginetradition began with the first Wright brothers\' engine in 1903. In the early1920\'s they were still building the Hisso in small quantities for militaryplanes, a large 6-cylinder for Navy dirigibles and a 500 HP successor to theLiberty. Wright also made a tentative entry into the marine engine field.Manufacturing later moved to more modest facilities in Paterson, New Jersey.

Charles A.Lindbergh was planning his solo flight, New York to Paris and he used enginesmanufactured by Wright. Lindbergh\'sflight was an international triumph for Wright Aeronautical. Both Whirlwindengines never missed a beat. (Source: Curtiss-Wright Corporation)
