RARE WWII MAP OF \"GERMANY AND ITS APPROACHES\" JULY 1944 ONE MONTH AFTER D-DAY:
$80.00

RARE, HISTORIC NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAP OF \"GERMANY AND ITS APPROACHES\" JULY, 1944 ONE MONTH AFTER D-DAY!!
I bought at sale this great July, 1944 map entitled \"Germany and Its Approaches\". There is some wear and as seen, fold lines but I would still rate this map as VG or VG+. It is a large map, 33 1/2\" in length and 26 1/2\" wide. I believe if framed, the fold lines should be flattened and much reduced in appearance; it will look very impressive framed.
Of particular interest is the text by the title of the map: \"Germany and Its Approaches with international boundaries as of Sept. 1, 1939 the day Germany invaded Poland and, in red, boundaries as of January 1, 1938 before Germany seized Austria and Czechoslovakia\".
In the drumbeat of aggressive sales taken by Hitler\'s Germany before the outbreak of WWII, Germany \"annexed\" Austria on March 12, 1938 and proceeded to occupy Czechoslovakia on March 15, 1939. Hoping to appease Hitler, the nations of England, France and the United States did nothing to stop this aggression.
The Allied invasion of France at Normandy, June 6, 1944, a date that will always be known as \"D-Day\", clearly sought to bring an end to Nazi Germany, in an offensive that also relied on Russian offensives launched along the Eastern Front. This map printed one month later following D-DAY,while the Allied forces were heavily engaged in seeking to break out of Normandy beachheads and advance across France, clearly indicates the intent of the Allies to strip a defeated Germany of their aggressive actions not only in invading Poland that triggered WWII, but in reversing Germany\'s possession of countries such as Czechoslovakia that Germany was able to overrun before the war, without firing a shot. Along those lines it is interesting to see that \"East Prussia\" is divided in this map and separate from the rest of Germany.
Clearly this map is also before the Cold War set in, with Russian occupying a large part of what became East Germany.
30 day return guarantee as long as the map is returned in the same condition as sent. Mailing cost includes insurance and is based on domestic mailing. International mailing cost is based on destination.
This will make an outstanding addition to a general collection of WWII artifacts especially with this map published one month after D-Day. It will also make an important addition to a general collection of historic maps, especially military maps. And even with the fold lines it should display very nicely framed.
