RARE mid-1800s HOUND HANDLE RIDGWAY POTTERY DOG PITCHER YELLOW WARE MINT:
$395.00

This is a very finely molded raised relief hound handlepitcher with vivid detail in the hunt scene. This is a later version of the hound handle pitchers typicallyfound. The earlier versions were made atthe Phillips & Bagster Pottery during the 1820s. This pitcher with the more upright houndhandle and more elaborate handle mount was made at the Ridgway Pottery around1850. Interestingly, both pitchers weredesigned by James Abington, who first worked for Phillips & Bagster andlater for Ridgway. Measuring only 3 3/4” in height to thetop of the spout, this is the smallest size hound handle pitcher made in thisdesign and is the first of two matching graduated pitchers Ihave listed. The pitcher is in MINTcondition with no cracks, stains or restoration. A photo of the American version of thispitcher can be found in Lisa McAllister’s Collector’s Guide to Yellow Ware BookII on page 121. This pitcher is for the advancedcollector and is even more beautiful in person than shown in the photos.
