DESCRIPTION: Listed French Artist Roger Tourte is known for his gouache /watercolor paintings of Greece that he painted upon moving there just before the war. This painting is one of the most beautiful examples of the artist\'s work I have seen. It is entitled \"KaiserianiGrece\" and is of theKaisariani Monastery. The monastery was built in the 11th Century and has roots dating back to ancient times. It is believed that in the time this site was a shrine to Aphrodite who was said to have blessed the waters and new brides would come to drank the waters to speed conception and becomepregnant. This painting hassuperb composition, form and color. It is in excellent condition. I believe this painting is in its original frame which I took apart to clean and reseal (photos were taken through the glass after cleaning). R. Tourte\'s work has been sold at some of the mostprestigioussale houses including Sotheby\'s and Bonhams.

He studied painting and architecture at Ecole des Beaux - Arts inParis. He traveled to Africa, Persia, China, Japan and NorthAmerica. Just before the war he went to Greece where he settledpermanently and dealt mainly with watercolor depicting ancient monuments,flowers, churches, islands and continental landscapes of Greece. Hisworks are distinguished for their design ability and their color sensitivity.
