Charles J. Noke was born in Worcester in 1858, close to the famous china factory. His father was a connoisseur, collector and dealer in antiques with one of the largest collections of old china in the country..There are stories of a school age Charles Noke borrowing clay from the Worcester factory, a favorite visiting place for his father, to model animals and it was Noke who started the HN animal collection at Burslem...In 1889 C J Noke joined the company-despite his excellent reputation as a modeller was also an accomplished artist and becameDoulton’s art director andbegan to experiment with the production of high-temperature transmutation glaze...Over the years he aded to his collection of Vellum figures with portraits of his favorite actors Henry Irving and Ellen Terry in their famous roles -Ellen Terry was first employed by Irving at the Lyceum Theatre in 1878; she was his leading lady until 1902 and their on-stage partnership became one of the most famous in the history of the theatre...

The high gloss, exquisite woman figurine stands approximately 12.25 inches in height -represents Ellen Terry (1847-1928) as Queen Catherine in Shakespeare\'s Henry VIII which she first played at the Lyceum Theatre on 5 January 1892 to Henry Irving\'s Cardinal Wolsey..She is looking off to the side with her head tilted on an angle wearing a long gown in shades of purples and bluesbased on paintings by Holbein (no expense on the lavish settings and costumes for this production).....
