Cranberry Lake is a lake on the east branch of the Oswegatchie River in the Adirondack Park in New York in the United States. It is the third largest lake in the Adirondack Park (after Lake George and the Great Sacandaga Lake. About 75 percent of the shoreline is owned by State of New York; the 118,000-acre (480 km2) Five Ponds Wilderness Area abuts its south shore, and the Cranberry Lake Wild Forest covers much of its remaining shoreline. Most of the lake is in the Eastern end of the Town of Clifton, but a small part of the east side of the lake is in the Town of Piercefield and a small part of the west side of the lake is in the Town of Fine. The lake is entirely in the south part of Saint Lawrence County, New York. On a north arm of the lake is the community of Cranberry Lake. On a western arm of the lake in the Town of Fine, is the community of Wanakena, among other things also location of the SUNY-ESF Ranger School. Several islands are within the lake, the largest being Joe Indian Island and Buck Island. The Cranberry Lake Biological Station, also part of SUNY-ESF, is located on Barber Point.

Piercefield is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York,United States. The population was 310 at the 2010 census. The Town ofPiercefield is in the southeast corner of the county and is southeast ofCanton. The town was established in 1801 before the creation of St. LawrenceCounty. The 1933 closing of the International Paper factory led to an economicdownturn in the town. Residents of the area included Abbot Augustus Low whoresided in an area known as Horseshoe. The Arab Mountain Fire Observation Stationand Childwold Memorial Presbyterian Church are listed on the National Registerof Historic Places.

Conifer-- A hamlet southwest of Piercefield village. Conifer was a logging town near Piercefield, New York and at its height boasted the Emporium Lumber Company Mill and eventually a Heywood Wakefield Mill. Many photo cards listing the location as Childwold are from Henry Beach. At that time Conifer was a just a spot on the map and not quite ready for a post office. The village still exist today but the mills are long gone.

Massawepie Lake is located in the Adirondack Mountains ofNew York State, U.S., and a Boy Scout camp surrounding the lake. LakeMassawepie is located in the town of Piercefield, in southern St. LawrenceCounty, New York, approximately 12 miles (19 km) southwest of the village ofTupper Lake, New York. The lake is approximately 750 acres (3.0 km2), at anelevation of approximately 1700 feet (520 m) above sea level, and flows southinto one of the tributaries of the Grasse River. The name of the lake itself isIroquois origin, meaning \"the beaver\'s lake\".

One of most notable geographic features is the MassawepieMire located immediately to the south of the lake. It is bordered by two longnorth-south eskers. Hundreds of acres in size, the bog is one of the largest ofits kind in the Eastern United States and is almost entirely on the Boy Scoutcamp\'s property.

In 1890, the Childwold Park House, commonly known as theChildwold Hotel, opened on the shoreline of Massawepie Lake, just east of themain Flagpole of the current camp. In the days before air-conditioning,upperclass residents of New York City would retreat to the Adirondacks toescape the summer heat. Visitors to Childwold Park would take the New YorkCentral Railroad north from Utica and get off at Childwold Station. From therethey would take a 7-mile (11 km) trip along the Carriage Road to the hotel. Thehotel closed in 1909.
