This icon depicts Saint Nicolas theMiracle Worker the bishop of Myrain the IV century. He is one of the most popular Saints in the world. People ofvarious occupations claim him as patron. He saved sailors from terrible storm,helped poor and saved innocents from the axe. He is the Holy patron of Russia,patron of Travelers, saves from flood and poverty.

The feasts are on 9(22) May and6(19) December.

This is so called \"Summer\"Nicolas whose feast is on May. He is depicted bare headed. The\"Winter\" Nicolas is depicted in his Bishop\'s hat.

Thismodern Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professional church artistin the main Monastery of Saint-Petersburg: Alexander Nevsky Laura.

Itwas painted with tempera on a wooden board covered with levkas (gesso, specialpriming). The style is traditional and strictly follows the antique canons ofthe icon painting.

Theicon is covered with the chased metal (brass or tin or soft iron) oklad (riza,metal cover). The oklad is silver plated.

Thisis so called «under oklad» icon and painting beneath oklad may be schematic ifany. We haven’t examined closed parts.

Thereare two original wooden wedges at the top and the bottom edges of the board toprevent it from warping.

Size= 7.7x6.5x0.9 (19.5x16.5x2.3 cm). Weight = 408 gr.
