RARE 1/9 BY NOTED FEMALE AMBROTYPIST FROM NYC - CRAZY HANDSOME LINCOLN LOOK-A-LIKE - Yes, you are right, he was a very handsome and distinguished gentleman. He was wearing a fine suit and a tall stovepipe top hat which was quite fashionable during the Lincoln Era, however, what is even more spectacular is the fact that this ninth plate likeness was captured by one of the rare female Ambrotypist\'s in New York City. I found Mary A. Weston name using John Craig\'s Daguerreian Registry stamped on the mat; her address at 142 1/2 Bowery Street was in the lower part of Manhattan. Her Ambrotype studio was in business between 1858 - 1860. I like to think the handsome smirk on this gentleman\'s face was coaxed out of him by this female artist. Subtle warm toned tinting was applied to his face and he was then placed into a wonderful leatherette case. I offer this incredibly rare portrait by one of the few early female photographers, who was ahead of her time. CONDITION:Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The ninth plate ambrotype contains excellent contrast, tonal range and sharpness. Warm tinting was added to the gentleman\'s face. The image resides in a full case with the original hinge, the working clasp and a beautiful red velvet pillow adjacent to his likeness. The mat is stamped with this noted photographers name and address. A very strong portrait for your collection of 19th Century photography by an early female pioneer in American photographic history.
