You\'re offerding on Volume II ONLY of \"A Complete History Of England: With The Lives Of All The Kings And Queens Thereof\", first edition, published 1706, London. No author indicated, but this volume is attributed to English poet and essayist John Hughes, who compiled it from various contemporary sources.
If you\'re going to have just one volume of this set, though, this might be the best one, as it includes long, detailed biographical histories of both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, as well as Edward VI, Queen Mary, and James I.Book is probably worth the price of admission for the portrait plates alone - there are fantastic 9\" X 16\" ornate period engravings of each monarch by 16th-17th Century engraver Edward Luttrell.
Note, book does have some significant condition issues - sold AS-IS AS-FOUND - front and rear board are both detached and the leather is cracked and deteriorated, as is the leather on the spine. Textblock, save for the last couple of pages of the index that are detached, is still solidly stitched, though and book would be a good candidate for restoration. Note that about the first quarter of the book exhibits varying degrees of staining and age toning, but this dissipates and the remainder of the book is quite clean. One page does have a large tear, and several pages within the Elizabeth section have carefully noted marginalia in pencil that could probably be easily erased. Book is large - 9\"X 16\" as previously noted, about 2 5/8\" thick and weighing over 8 lbs.
Despite the issues, this is a scarce early title to find in any condition - please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don\'t hesitate to ask any questions prior to offerding - thanks for looking!
