Description :1st half 17th C. Italian king Ferdinand III period (1637-1657) silver mounted coconut cut with cover by AE.C?. The flat domed tapering foot engraved with C-scrolls and vertical stiff leaves. Rising to an engraved baluster-shaped stem under a flat bu...n-shaped banded knot. The coconut, mounted to a plain silver cup, is held firmly to the stem by three shaped silver straps as supports. The double domed cover with engraved flowers, leaves and medallions, closed flower finial.
Such similar example, yet smaller and without cover, was saleed at Christies`s in December 2011 and fetched the price of €3,300. Please follow the link for viewing : :

Some splits and a two oldrepair to the foot as seen in the high definition images. Damages to such early pieces is almost inevitable. Otherwise structurally sound, standing strong and lid closes tight with no loose.
