This listing is for a LARGE rare Whitall Tatum and Co. hand-blown glass specimen jar. Please note dimensions listed below. This item is sold AS IS.
The jar dates from between 1898 and 1901 and is hand-blown soda lime glass. The glass has natural imperfections including a few small bubbles and slight waviness in the sides of the glass due to natural thickness variation. The bottom of the jar has a slight mark where the punty was attached during the jar\'s fabrication. The top flange also has a slight fold where it was attached to the jar body. The inner lip of the flange is ground glass, as seen in the pictures.
The lid of the jar reads WHITALL.TATUM & Co PHILADELPHIA NEW YORK. The lid also has two small hand-blown hooks from which specimens can be suspended. Both the jar and lid have no chips, cracks, clouding or damage.
This jar includes the metal clamp. The clamp is in working condition and does not require force to turn the screw. The clamp and screw do shows signs of rust - please note the photos. The bare metal can still be seen under the rust and the rust does not impair the tightening screw in any way. The screw fits in a small, circular indent on the lid to screw tightly into place.
