For sale is a bit of an unusual plate made by Chelsea in the mid 18th century around 1765. It is made of soft paste porcelain with a thick glaze. The plate is hand painted with green birds all around the rim surrounded by a black and gold leafy trim held together by a puce bow. Gold and black central design. The paste in between the bird cartouches has a nice relief design to it but the thick glaze makes it hard to see. The plate is in good condition with some wear mainly to the gold trim on the very edge, three edge chips as shown and the glaze has crazing to it also shown.A little staining to one area. It displays very nicely! I have never seen glaze this thick as I tried to show in the pictures - it looks like glass over the porcelain in some areas 2mm thick. Amazing! The piece is marked with the tiny gold anchor underneath and it has the three typical spur or stilt marks on the back from firing. The plate is 1.25 inches tall and has a diameter of 8.875 inches.
