For sale is a rare cup and saucer made by Naples aka Real Frabbrica Ferdinandea in about 1790. The Capodimonte factory existed near Naples from 1743 until 1759. It had little to do with the Naples factory which was founded by Ferdinand IV in 1771. It was around until 1806 when the French occupied it and after that the molds, etc. were sold all over the place. The set is hand painted with a superb scene of a volcano erupting (probably Vesuvius ) with a landscape with people and buildings in it. Nice gold trim all around. The set is in great condition with a small rim blemish on the top edge of the cup but it is from the making and has the original gilding on it. The cup and saucer are marked with the under glaze blue N with a crown on top often used by other makers but originally used by Naples as is the case on this set. The cup stands 2.25 inches tall, 2.125 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.875 inches tall and 4.875 inches in diameter.
