Rare 1900 Antique Elgin Pocket Watch 15 Jewels14k Gold Filled With Display Case For Sale
I took this watch to my jeweler, who told me it was 14K gold filled and the movement # (9275459) indicated a date of 1900-1901. The case # is 4980494 and is from the Philadelphia Watch Case Co. There are 15 jewels and scratched into the back of the movement cover are the figures 1-17-8/6512. The stem will turn the hands, but the watch will not wind up and keep time. The jeweler said it could be repaired if desired.
I am calling this watch "RARE" as I just spend the last hour or so going through Completed Listings on to find a similar watch (about 3,000 watches) and could not find one just like it. It has the following characteristics: No cover, winding stem at the 12 o'clock position, Roman Numerals, aGOLD colored second hand, Elgin with a gold double diamond below it, and a gold pattern going around the watch and between each number. Apparently someone tried to fix what may have been a brown spot on the dial at the 11, as can be seen in the photo, leaving a white spot. The back of the watch has an engraved pattern, but appears worn in the center. Apparently someone in the family must have valued it highly, as it has always been kept in a display case since he died. The case will not be included.
