Description:
Very rare antique Bucherer/SABA(*) #1008 metal and composition Swiss toy doll depicting a very realistic and well detailed figure of a Dutch Man in his original and almost impossible to get cardboard box.
Patented ball jointed body, made of aluminum, steel and brass, completely poseable thanks to its finely turned metal balls and sockets with flesh molded removable composition head, hands and shoed feet.Very well molded flesh colored composition head with painted facial features and intaglio eyes.
He is dressed in his complete factory original felt clothing consisting of a blue jacket with violet buttons, red scarf, black pants with original violet patches, black molded cap and black laced high shoes.
Marked on the torso: “Made in // Switzerland // Patents // Applied For”. Made in Amriswil, Switzerland by Bucherer & Cie, circa 1927.
Dimensions:
7-¾ inches (19,5 cm) height.
Condition:
This example is compete with original clothes and no visible moth holes in excellent to near mint overall condition in very fine box.
(*) The Bucherer patented metal ball-jointed dolls, also known as SABA, were produced in Switzerland since 1921 to 1935. They were designed and produced over 160 different models, being two-thirds of their production intended for export. As America was the largest importer, Bucherer took advantage of that and developed many comic characters and celebrities such as Mutt and Jeff, Happy Hooligan, Maggie and Jiggs, the Katzenjammer Kids, Amelia Earhart, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, William Hart, etc. Also, the very realistic ethnic and uniformed figures and children’s heroes that were very popular with the American buyer.
