HUNT JUG FOX on Lid 11.5\" Description:
TITLE: Rare 19th Century GEORGE JONES MAJOLICA HUNT JUG FOX on Lid 11.5\"
DESCRIPTION: GEORGE JONES majolica hunt jug with fox on hinged lid, one panel on the side with dog and game bird, the other panel with a fox and rabbit. It has a riding crop handle. Typical cobalt and sky blue ground. Mottled base with registration lozenge for 1872. Sky blue interior.
CONDITION: Extremely good all over condition, bright colours.
The top fox has been damaged. One ear has been chipped off and there is a chip to the other ear. There are chips to both front legs, the larger chip is on the right front leg when looking from the front.
The lid has been broken. Internal damage is: cracks with loss of glazing. There is a chip and related cracks to the top lid.
There are two small chips to the base rim. The larger of the two is on the outer base rim and the smaller one on the base foot rim.
The main body is intact.
On the panel depicting fox and hare, there is a chip to the foxes ear.
On the Panel depicting the dog and game bird, there are two small areas with loss of glazing.
Metal mounts on lid are in good condition, as is the mechanism.
